Daymakers!

Welcome (or welcome back!) to the campaign for our third issue of Daybreak!  Thank you for such a tremendous launch; the campaign is close to 60% funded after the first 36 hours and we're very grateful for the sprint out of the gate. A fast start will hopefully keep the campaign in the good graces of Kickstarter's algorithms and keep us near the top of search results and the such.  It helps quite a bit.

We deliberately keep the funding goals for these campaigns low, our primary goal is to get the books into people's hands and tell the complete first story arc. It may surprise some of you to learn I've never earned a dollar on any of the Daybreak campaigns; actually the opposite when all the beans are counted. And that's fine; I mean, eventually I'd like to buy myself dinner for the (countless) hours of work put in to create this series but Daybreak! is the literal definition of a labor of love for me.  Which is my way of explaining that it means a lot that you guys enjoy the book enough to support it.

WHAT'S NEXT?

We still have some ground to cover to reach our funding goal so, while Stefan Tosheff and I are working on the double-sized final issue, if you guys want to help a little further, sharing the the campaign (bit.ly/Daybreak3) on your social media is the best way to do it.  Please notice the capital 'D' on that Daybreak, by the way. It makes all the difference.

Social media algorithms are a tricky little b*tch, to be honest. I have a very solid amount of followers on my Instagram (@thepretentiouskeithchampagne) and let me show you how many of them saw yesterday's post about this campaign:

That's crazy, right? And from a marketing standpoint, kind of useless.  The social media platforms really throttle these types of posts to encourage paying for clicks. So, if you guys see a post and can share/tweet/repost it, or throw something out there yourselves, it's a tremendous help. Please use the hashtag #Daybreak3 in anything you post. We always have a raffle at the end of the campaign (Jessica M, your Batman omnibus is in the mail right now. Don't hurt your back lifting it!) to say thanks for the extra help. We'll be announcing this campaign's reward soon.

We've also made the Daybreak! trading cards available as an add-on for anyone that would like to pick them up. The set contains the first appearance of the mysterious new character, Sunset, that will be debuting in our final (did I mention double-sized?) issue.  And I also loaded up a new digital add-on, two complete Batman: Brave And The Bold scripts I wrote for DC Comics that were never published. Some people enjoy behind-the-scenes material so if that kind of thing is your bag, all you gotta do is manage your pledge to add them on.

AND FINALLY...

I wanted to point you in the direction of Todd Dezago and Craig Rousseau's campaign for The Bedlam Field Guide to Cryptozoology (vol 2) .

This graphic I grabbed from their page can kind of fill you in on the basics of their project really quick...

I've never met Todd and I only know Craig through work (inking some Young Justice pages back at the dawn of time) and Facebook but I'm fans of both of their work and I'm happy to back and share their project.  If you want to check it out, here's that link again:  BEDLAM AWAITS HERE

Well, we did it, guys. We made it through our first update together! I'd say they won't always be this long but they probably will so it is what it is.

Back soon with more.

Your pal,

Keith
